BABY Went 9 HOURS with NO NAP

A KidZington Academy Article

My 10 month old son decided today was ” No Nap Saturday”. At 1pm we went on an adventure to run errands, normally he falls asleep in the car for his afternoon Nap.

On this particular Saturday, the sounds of jubilation filled the backseat. He held his green pool noodle(I know It’s dangerous). But he held it for 2 hours at home and the whole car ride, so what are you going to do?

Giggles filled the car, Humming through the noodle made me chuckle. We arrived home at 3pm, Great! He is still awake yet sleepy and slightly cranky. I made him a bottle and laid him down.

SOUNDS OF SILENCE

47 Seconds into his BLISSFULL Sleep, he arose with a cry ibhad never heard before-Pain. For the last 10 months I have had an angel baby, Sleeping on a schedule, Cut Two teeth without a peep, all while staying a happy baby. He has never had a fever or ever been sick(Crazy, I know! I waited… I waited for that shoe to drop.)

The SHOE that dropped?

His separation anxiety? His new upper teeth? How could I tell? I Tried to comfort with all sorts of Baby Orajel, Tylenol, Frozen Teethers. You NAME IT, I TRIED IT!

9 pm Still Screaming and Crying uncontrollably. I even checked his body for bug bites from outside that morning, I checked his tiny fingers to see if he had hair wrapped around one, I cheked his diaper to see if any hair, or feather from my bed pillow was poking him.. I tried to have him self sooth Nothing was working.

NO bottle ?

My child refused a bottle & Pacifier, he rejected his teethers… when I held him he wanted down… This Kids Still has Engergy!

Frantic Energy.

Mania in my baby?

Yes, I have seen the effects of a baby fighting sleep which my son fought for 8 hours straight, that night… It clicked He hit his wall Hours ago, Now he is in an uncontrollable situation where his tiny brain can not get it together to self sooth…

I played all types of music, I read stories, I tried to make him laugh.. Nothing would Calm Him.

I NEEDED A BREAK!

I could feel I was running out of options to help him… the last thing I wanted was to just not try anything… It worked I stepped backed I stopped going over to him( I was making his anxiety worse). I MADE sure he was safe and secure and I stepped outside.. 5 minutes later he was alseep…

We all have those days, where we are at a loss of what to do… moments of doubt and even failure. KEEP PUSHING! stay the course and you will succeed.
